Historically, there is an official trace of the name "spaghetto" in the first dictionary of the Italian language by Nicolò Tommaseo and Bernardo Bellini (1819). Here spaghetto is included as "singular masculine diminutive of spago" and it is mentioned as "Minestra di Spaghetti: which are pasta of the thickness of a small spago and long, like sopracapellini". A curiosity: in 1957 the BBC broadcasted the first documentary about the production of spaghetti and the day after the TV studios were flooded with phone calls from viewers asking for the name of producers and distributors of spaghetti in order to buy them. Spaghetti are so versatile that they can be served with any kind of condiment, from fish to meat, from vegetables to cheese, but they are also excellent if eaten plain with just extra virgin olive oil and a sprinkling of Parmesan cheese. Available in 500g package.
